Tips for Engineering Admissions

Do you aspire to become an engineer? Have you appeared for all the top engineering entrance exams? If the results of most of the exams are out and there is no chance for you to secure admission in the colleges of your choice, here are some questions that must be boggling you:

  • Will I get admission in a good engineering college?
  • Which branch should I go for?
  • Should I apply for some other course?
  • Which is more important - branch or college?

If you are not able to get a seat in IITs or NIITs, don't be worried as there are many private engineering colleges that conduct their own entrance exams and provide candidates a good chance to secure admission. However, before applying for admission to any private college, check the placement records of the college and the branches it offers. It is advisable to make a list of the branches you prefer on the basis of your interest and the job opportunities opened up by a branch. Don't take admission in a college if you are not getting a seat in one of your preferred branches. Branch holds as much importance as a college.

There are many top engineering colleges in Bhopal, Mumbai, Delhi and other cities in India that have world-class campus, experienced faculty, well-equipped laboratories and other facilities. Do a detailed research before freezing any college. Visit the campus and speak with current students about their experiences with the faculty. See the number of labs and enquire about the kind of companies that visit the campus for placements.

In short, neither college nor branch can take precedence over one another; both are equally important selection criteria.

You can also opt for a polytechnic course which can be pursued after 10th standard. This a diploma course in engineering with the duration of 3 years. After completion of the polytechnic course from a good polytechnic college in Bhopal or any other city in India, you can take a lateral entry directly to the second year of the engineering course.

Polytechnic Courses—a Shortcut to the Blossoming Technical Career

A phrase, “incompetent for technical job” often is heard in the aisles of human resource departments across the nation. The reason for the ubiquitous use of the phrase is the lack of the vocational courses. In our country, the graduate technical courses emphasize more on the theoretical knowledge, and practical and hands-on experiences are always the second priority. This remains true in all colleges, be it government or private college.

However, there is a course—polytechnic, a diploma course in technology—that many of us neglect. One can pursue the diploma after the high school, and it is designed specifically to endow technical vocational training. Whether one gets a diploma from a polytechnic college in Bhopal or in Bangalore, one tends to be more trained and experienced in the technical industry.

Diploma holders can find a job in automobile industry, electrical organisations, defense Industry, railways, shipping and aviation industry, along with the technology companies.

Be it a polytechnic collegein MP or in any other state, all offer a multitude of diploma courses:
  •    Diploma in computer science
  •    Diploma in electrical engineering
  •     Diploma in civil engineering
  •   Diploma in mechanical engineering
  •      Diploma in electronics and communication
As diploma holders more trained and competent at a job, companies nowadays are considering polytechnic graduates over B Tech for junior engineering positions. The same is true for PSUs as well; graduates with polytechnic level education have more chances of getting into the public sector companies. Therefore, if you want to start your career earlier and gain work experience, it is recommended to enroll in polytechnic college in MP or the states that you belong too.
